International government-led linkage models support ultilizing FTAs
In order to optimize the benefits brought by free trade agreements (FTAs) and support businesses to participate in international trade, many countries have formed and organized linkage models to serve the above 02 goals. The following are examples of Korean and UK models and some lessons for Viet Nam.
Linkage models in production, business, international trade and the necessity of the FTA Ecosystem to support businesses to ultilize the FTAs in Viet Nam
In the context of increasingly liberalized trade through the signing of Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), Vietnam, by entering into 18 FTAs, has numerous opportunities to develop its trade activities and engage in international commerce. To fully leverage these opportunities, Vietnam is currently exploring the development of a comprehensive ecosystem model designed to support enterprises in effectively leveraging the benefits offered by FTAs. In order to support the construction of this ecosystem model, it is extremely important to draw upon insights and best practices from existing models that facilitate business connectivity and collaboration. These references will serve as a valuable foundation for crafting an ecosystem that is not only well-adapted to the domestic context, but also responsive to the evolving demands of global economic integration.
Vietnam – Arab Trade Relations and Prospects from the Vietnam–GCC Free Trade Agreement
In the context of global trade facing complex fluctuations, diversifying markets through bilateral and multilateral Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) has become increasingly urgent. Such diversification helps countries maintain stability and strengthen resilience in international commerce. The Arab region, particularly the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) with Saudi Arabia as a key member, is regarded as a strategic partner of Vietnam across multiple fields. Building on the milestone of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between Vietnam and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), a Vietnam–GCC FTA is expected to open new opportunities and drive robust trade growth between the parties.
Objectives and significance of building a set of indicators to evaluate the annual implementation results of free trade agreements by localities (FTA Index)
In recent times, participation in Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) has brought Viet Nam positive results in many aspects, however, there are still shortcomings, for example, the room for enterprises and industries to take advantage of FTAs is still relatively limited. Based on the approval of the Government's leaders, in 2024, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has developed and deployed a set of indicators to evaluate the annual implementation results of free trade agreements of localities (FTA Index) and held a ceremony to announce the results of the FTA Index on April 8, 2025 at the Government headquarters with the participation of H.E. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and H.E. Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son.
Vietnam’s Textile and Garment Supply Chain under Global Geopolitical Instability
The volatile global geopolitical context-from the Russia–Ukraine conflict, Middle East tensions, to the polarization in U.S.-China relations-is exerting unprecedented pressure on global supply chains. Vietnam’s textile and garment industry, characterized by its heavy dependence on imported raw materials and export markets, has become particularly vulnerable to these systemic shocks. This article analyzes the key challenges currently affecting Vietnam’s textile and garment supply chain in the prolonged context of geopolitical instability, including raw material supply disruptions, global logistics fluctuations, energy risks, and the pressure to comply with increasingly stringent international standards. Based on this, the article proposes several strategic directions to enhance the resilience and sustainability of the industry’s supply chain in this turbulent period.
Updates on the WTO’s Agreement on Fisheries Subsidies
The Agreement on Fisheries Subsidies (WTO Agreement on Fisheries Subsidies) is an important international trade agreement of the World Trade Organization (WTO), aiming to control and eliminate subsidies that contribute to overfishing and illegal fishing, thereby protecting global marine resources. After more than 20 years of negotiations, the Agreement on Fisheries Subsidies was adopted at the 12th WTO Ministerial Conference (MC12) in June 2022.
